Soft Swirl and Slush: The Best Cool-Down on the Rail Trail

Every good ride needs a reason to stop. Ours is about twenty steps off the Okanagan Rail Trail.

There’s a reason soft serve works better than anything fancier here. After an hour in Okanagan summer heat, you don’t want to make a decision — you want something cold, immediately. Swirl solves the decision entirely.

The Slush Screamer

Our carbonated slush machine is the other half of the answer. Carbonated slush hits differently than regular slush: it’s colder-feeling, sharper, and it lasts longer in the heat.

If you’ve just come off the water or finished a ride, this is the one.

Why this stop, specifically

We’re on the Oyama Isthmus — the narrow strip between Wood Lake and Kalamalka Lake — and the Rail Trail runs right past the door. That means you don’t have to plan the stop or leave the trail. It’s simply there at the point where you’d naturally want it.

For anyone riding with kids, it’s also a useful piece of leverage. “Ice cream at the store” gets a lot of tired legs up the last stretch.

Make it the full stop

While you’re cooling down, the store has cold drinks, water, fresh produce, snacks, and bagged ice if you’re heading onward to the beach. The e-bike and paddleboard shop is directly across the way if you want to keep the day going.
