Paddleboard Rentals on Wood Lake and Kalamalka Lake
Two lakes, one isthmus, and a board shop in the middle of it. Here's how paddleboard rentals work at Oyama General Store.
The Oyama Isthmus is one of the few places in the Okanagan where you can choose between two very different lakes without moving your car. Our board shop sits in the middle of it.
Two lakes, steps apart
Wood Lake is the warmer of the two and generally the friendlier option if you’re newer to paddleboarding or bringing kids along. Kalamalka Lake is the one people photograph — the colour it turns in midsummer is the reason it gets called the Lake of Many Colours.
Because the shop is on the isthmus between them, you can look at the conditions on both and pick whichever is calmer that morning. Wind tends to make the decision for you.
Hours and booking
The E-Bike & Board shop is open 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, 7 days a week, including statutory holidays. As with our e-bikes, we recommend booking at least 24 hours ahead, especially for weekends — boards go out fast on hot days.
All rentals require a signed rental agreement and liability waiver.
The best time to go out
Mornings. Okanagan lakes are usually glass before the afternoon wind picks up, and paddling flat water is a completely different experience than fighting chop. If you can be on the water by mid-morning, take it.
Late afternoon often calms again, which makes for a good second window if mornings aren’t your thing.
What to bring
Keep it simple:
- Water, and more than you think for a hot afternoon
- Sunscreen — you get sun off the surface as well as from above
- A hat and sunglasses with a strap
- A dry bag or something to keep your phone safe
We stock sunscreen, cold drinks, and bagged ice at the store, so you can sort out anything you forgot before you launch.
After you paddle
Come back in for soft swirl ice cream — chocolate, vanilla, or swirl — or a Slush Screamer from the carbonated slush machine. It’s a good end to a hot afternoon on the water, and it’s about twenty steps from where you return your board.
